RETREATING

Well, I still have not figured out this WordPress thing, someday I may even figure out how to have a header when opening the blog instead of a blank white page.

It has been a busy March thus far. Five days spent away from home at a Quilt retreat, (one of those days learning all about Featherweight Sewing machines.) Sewing at the retreat consisted of 8-10hours/day of straight sewing, (no going out for lunch or buying a new machine, twice at these retreats I have come home with a new Bernina…). Quilters are unrealistically optimistic, we pack up several projects and LOTS of gear believing we will finish 3-4 quilt tops, a couple of needed bags and start several new projects…HAHA! I have yet to see one quilt top started and completed at a retreat, sure lots of blocks and borders completed- even some bags.

Quilt retreaters are expert packers for all the must have quilting things. We have the bins, bags, chairs, seat cushions, electronic gadgets, lights, rulers, cutters, cutting pads, irons, fabric organizers, machines (two, in case one acts up) and transport carts with wheels! We pack our cars tight so that nothing moves as we barrel down the interstate and take those corners into the parking lot to get a good spot to unload. This is not a ‘blood sport’, we are polite but first come…..

What does get accomplished at quilt retreats: new friendships made, lots of ideas formed for that next ‘must make project’, gadgets discovered, cookies, cake and some healthy food consumed, weight gained, and loads of Amazon orders placed for all those new gadgets discovered.

After several days, we reverse the process—-repack our cars, maybe not so tight-OK wily nilly, (we are exhausted), drive under speed in the right lane being unable to make safe passing decisions, calling home to have our partners(anyone) ready to open the garage door and unload the car. Notice, I did not say ‘help us unload,’ our arms are too fatigue to lift a thread. After a week or so, we will consider putting away all the quilting goods-but, maybe not.

Until the next retreat.

If you are a quilter, do find a retreat to attend, the entertainment is endless.

Well that all sounds delightful! I’m packing up ONE project, my machine, and Lucy for a morning retreat at my SIL’s on Saturday … I will lower my expectations of how much sewing actually gets done.
